3. An artist statement
Using appropriated video footage from YouTube and other social networking sites, the current body of work aims to discuss performance, power and access issues created and adhered to by modern youth. The finessed editing of viral video responses and booty dance videos starring ones self make up the primary aesthetic of the work, while the quantity of such videos call into focus homogeny and apophenia as subtopics of the work.
When viewed as a whole, the work makes an attempt at dissecting and making sense from the video collections, to no avail. They literally and figuratively run endlessly. Issues relating to sexuality and gender performance and their representations and the motives for such performances are at the forefront of the videos topics. "Why?" is the question.
