Thesis Meeting Crit Notes

-the reaction videos leave the viewer to bounce between "is it sexual imagery or gore?"
- this is good. keep it vague, perhaps drop levels on words that give away exactly what the boys are looking at.
-the boy vomiting is distracting. although it reinforces the intensity of the situation, the active camera changes the viewers perceived intent---replace this with a static camera.
- on freezeframe: consider getting rid of this. intervene on the videos as little as possible, let them be what they are.
-consider putting the in/out bootys on one channel, not two? making them a sequence?

-the booty's and the reactions should be a seperate piece. divide them. amy disagreed. it was suggested that this might be overcomplicating the work. im not sure where i stand on this issue.
(the issue IS overcompllicated. i agree with everyone. i want to seperate them and have them exist as seperate pieces, but i feel bad letting go of this masculine/feminine type of art and i dont know why yet. im invested in both. id like to do this piece as two seperate works instead of all together as one, but.....i just feel guilty about it. i dont know. even if i seperate the pieces, the issues will still be there. but....i duno)

-reactions function as a stand in/portrait for masculinity
-consider an installation in which the viewer is surrounded by the asses and the reactions (in two distinct spaces, of course). viewer as missing piece?
- domino effect of bootys: visually interesting but serves no purpose, let the videos be what they are. too much coreography. (i think i disagree with this, when they just are what they are, it looks like a mess. at the very least, they all have to come in at once. the randomness causes confusion, i think)
- keep only group reactions, get rid of the one with the single boy.
-auto loop, Not auto play :)
-keep with the idea that they are talking to eachother and the viewer.
-youtube=bottomless pit of content.
-consider the fact that the work has an expiration date. do i create something timeless? do i care?

The new idea for now, is to build a wall to seperate the two pieces, thus creating two different rooms. two different viewing experiences. I am going to edit the videos that need to be handled and focus on the paper for the next 5 or 6 days and go to the writing center. The monitors will be mounted on opposing walls and the sound will be synched accordingly. The projection wasnt even looked at during the meeting, so thats out. Problem solved. For a while we talked about wether or not a monitor was going to reference YouTube too much. The answer is yes. It is going to reference the hell out or tv and the internet and media I think im ok with that. Plus, the projection broke the images down so much i only say color mass. Maybe it was the projector i was using, i duno. It just didnt look as good as the monitor.
